To mark the bicentenary of the writing of the American national anthem, the Star Spangled Banner, and its links to General Ross and Rostrevor, The Committee along with Newry and Mourne Council are organising a spectacular weekend of events on September 13th and 14th. These will include a lough-based firework display re-enacting the bombardment of Fort McHenry (which inspired the writing of the Star Spangled Banner); the mounting of a 40ft by 30ft replica of the original star spangled banner at the Ross Monument; a flotilla on the lough; live American themed music in the square; marching bands; American themed food and music nights at local pubs and restaurants; family fun attractions and an exhibition on General Ross.
